Established in 1935, Coogee Diggers is a community focused RSL that offers a range of facilities to its members. A strategic master plan for the development of the club has been actioned with the fitness centre upgrade part of the Stage 1 scope. The club resides in an original Art Deco building that has seen some unfortunate additions over the years and one of the key drivers of the development is to return the building to its original Architectural volume whilst maintaining a contemporary approach to any new additions.

With this strategy in mind we stripped back the space to its original volume where timber trusses were exposed in the ceiling plane and a raw palette of brick, concrete render and black and white tiles are used to add subtle textures to the space, a nod the materials prevalent in the construction boom of the 1930’s. Through a juxtaposition of fixtures and details the design approach delivers contemporary moments of nostalgia that add unique and intriguing layers to the brand experience that maintains its relevance in todays market.
